Biography

Temirzhan Yerzhanov, musician and educator hailing from Kazakhstan, launched his international career by winning the Gold Medal at the International Robert Schumann Piano Competition in Zwickau, Germany, and now continues to perform also as an emerging conductor.

He has performed in prestigious venues such as New York Carnegie Hall Auditorium Stern and Weill Recital Hall, London Wigmore Hall, Berlin Konzerthaus, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Dresden Sempergalerie, Paris Salle Gaveau, Moscow Conservatory and St. Petersburg Philharmonic Grand Halls, Deutsche Radio Berlin, Hong Kong Radio, Radio Russia and Orpheus Radio; recorded CDs for RCD and Con Brio Recordings labels.

A diverse musician, Mr. Yerzhanov has collaborated with many opera singers, instrumentalists, and opera companies.  As a conductor, he performed with Kazakh Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, Google Orchestra, Capital Philharmonia Brasilia, Kazakh National Abai Opera, Astana Opera, Shymkent Opera, Opera Cultura, and Orchestra Gradus ad Parnassum.

A graduate with an MA degree and former faculty member of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Temirzhan Yerzhanov studied piano with Professor Mikhail Voskressensky and conducting with Imant Airea. He was named ‘Best Performer of 2007’ by San Francisco Classical Voice. In his native country, he is awarded Yenbek Sinirgen Qairatkeri, the highest honorary title for national contribution. As an educator he has given piano masterclasses at Yantai University, West Washington University, Universidade de Brasilia, Kazakh National Conservatory, just to name a few.

Biography

Klara Frei has performed in Switzerland, France, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, and Russia, both as a soloist and an accomplished ensemble player. She has made appearances with The Kyrgyz National Symphony Orchestra performing major piano concertos by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Beethoven, and Chopin among others.

She started piano studies in her native country of Kyrgyzstan at the specialized music school. Winning the First Prize at the National Competition and the prestigious USSR Ministry of Culture Scholarship she continued her education at the famed Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory subsequently graduating with an MA degree from Musik-Akademie der Stadt Basel in Switzerland. Her teachers included distinguished Professors Evgeny Malinin, Jean-Jacques Dünki, and Peter Feuchtwanger.

Klara Frei and Temirzhan Yerzhanov as a husband and wife piano duo have performed in Prague, London, Moscow, Aargau, Switzerland, and recorded a CD. Their recitals were held by Steinway Society Bay Area in San Jose, Kyrgyz Philharmonic Hall, CSMA Concert Series in Mountain View, Fortuna Concert Series, St. Paul’s Concerts in Walnut Creek, and with Orchestra Gradus ad Parnassum for Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council and at Mission Santa Clara performing a rare Piano Concerto for Four Hands by Koželuch.

Having taught in several countries for 25 years, Klara Frei developed her way of teaching piano combining the best of Russian and European methods.
